About Project
exciting opportunities
The aim of the project is to raise £3m so we can take the Sutton Coldfield Sea Cadets and the facilities we provide to the town to another level.
Currently, the existing building does not lend itself to the safe and constructive environment due to being made from single skin clockwork and asbestos.
We want our young people and the education we provide to them to be carried out in a safe haven and our current premises are no longer up to the task.
We have decided on a complete rebuild and after much consultation with key individuals within the unit and the community and it was a unanimous decision that the ship needed to be decommissioned and brought back to life as a modern ship.
This is where things start to get really exciting.
We’ve decided upon a design based on the new type 26 frigate to be our new building silhouette.
This new building will be approximately half the size of the actual warship itself and we are also pleased to report that the Royal Navy will be commissioning one of these frigates as HMS Birmingham.
Not only will this be a huge achievement for Sutton Sea Cadets, but it will also be amazing for the Royal Town of Sutton Coldfield.
This building will also be available to the community, via multipurpose classrooms and conference facilities.
It is also our ambition to offer a community café meaning that the organisation becomes a community central location offering many things to many people.
